Frequently Asked Questions
What is physical therapy?
Physical therapy is a healthcare service that helps individuals restore mobility, improve strength, and reduce pain through movement-based treatment and hands-on care. At Physiophyx Physical Therapy in Saginaw, TX, we focus on identifying the root cause—not just the symptoms—to help you recover faster and move better.
Why is physical therapy important?
Physical therapy plays a crucial role in rehabilitation, injury prevention, pain management, and performance enhancement. It’s a natural, evidence-based alternative to surgery, medication, or injections—and it helps you stay active and independent longer.
What is sports physical therapy?
Sports physical therapy focuses on treating and preventing injuries related to athletic activity. Whether you’re a competitive athlete or a weekend warrior, our sports rehab specialists help you recover faster, move efficiently, and return to your sport stronger than before.
What do physical therapists do?
Physical therapists assess movement dysfunction, diagnose musculoskeletal issues, and create personalized treatment plans using hands-on therapy, exercises, and advanced modalities like dry needling, cupping, and shockwave therapy.
Why is physical therapy a good choice for my rehabilitation?
Physical therapy is a safe and effective option that targets the root cause of your pain or limitation. It restores function without relying on drugs or surgery and teaches you how to maintain your progress long-term.
How much does physical therapy cost?
To learn more about your options, we invite you to schedule a complimentary phone consultation. We’ll listen to your goals, understand your concerns, and see if we’re the right fit for your care. If not, we’ll gladly refer you to someone who is.
How long does physical therapy take?
The number of sessions depends on your condition, goals, and how your body responds. On average, patients see improvements within 4–12 sessions. We typically recommend 1–2 visits per week for 4–8 weeks, followed by maintenance or performance-based care.
Why does it matter which physical therapy clinic I choose?
Not all clinics are created equal. At Physiophyx, we provide one-on-one care, longer sessions, and a personalized, whole-body approach. You won’t be passed around or left on machines—your care is always with a licensed physical therapist.
What is a functional capacity evaluation (FCE)?
An FCE is a series of tests used to measure an individual’s physical abilities related to work or daily activities. It’s often used in workers’ comp cases or return-to-duty assessments.
How long is a physical therapy session?
Most of our sessions are 60 minutes of one-on-one time with your physical therapist. This allows us to assess, treat, and educate you without rushing.
Is therapy different for each individual?
Yes! No two bodies—or injuries—are the same. Your treatment plan will be tailored to your goals, lifestyle, and condition. We specialize in custom rehab plans, not cookie-cutter care.
Can I go to any physical therapy clinic?
Yes. In Texas, you have direct access to physical therapy. That means you can come straight to us without a referral or prescription in most cases.
Who pays for treatment?
Patients pay at the time of service and may be able to seek reimbursement through their insurance using a superbill we provide. We’re happy to review your options during a complimentary consultation.
Are there flexible payment options?
Yes! We offer flexible payment options and recovery packages. We’re happy to work with you to find what fits your situation best.
Can athletic performance and exercise tolerance be improved with physical therapy?
Absolutely. Physical therapy helps you move more efficiently, correct muscle imbalances, and build strength, endurance, and joint control—all of which improve performance and reduce injury risk.
Can I go directly to a physical therapist without a doctor’s order?
Yes. Texas is a direct access state, which means you can see a physical therapist without needing a referral from your doctor.
Can shoulder impingement improve?
Yes. Many cases of shoulder impingement respond very well to physical therapy that focuses on mobility, soft tissue release, and strengthening the rotator cuff and surrounding muscles.
Why should I choose Physiophyx Physical Therapy over other clinics?
We focus on the root cause, not just the symptoms. At Physiophyx, you’ll get one-on-one sessions with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, a holistic full-body approach, and advanced treatment options like dry needling, visceral manipulation, and shockwave therapy—all in a welcoming and personalized setting.
What is dry needling?
Dry needling uses thin, sterile needles to target trigger points in muscles and fascia to reduce pain and restore mobility. It’s based on Western medical principles and is effective for tightness, chronic pain, and injury recovery.
What is shockwave therapy?
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive technique that sends high-energy sound waves into tissue to promote healing, reduce inflammation, and break down scar tissue. It’s helpful for tendon pain, joint stiffness, and post-op recovery.
What is visceral manipulation?
Visceral manipulation is a gentle manual therapy that improves movement of the organs and the surrounding tissues. It’s used for patients with chronic pain, scar tissue, digestive issues, or post-surgical restrictions.
What should I wear to my physical therapy appointment?
Wear comfortable, athletic clothing that allows you to move freely. If we are treating a specific area like your hip or shoulder, please wear something that gives us access to that area.
What can I expect on my first visit?
Your first visit includes a full-body movement evaluation, hands-on treatment, and a custom plan to get you back to moving, feeling, and living better. We also include a complimentary recovery session (like shockwave, cupping, or compression boots) tailored to your needs.
Can I use my HSA or FSA for physical therapy?
Yes! Most HSA and FSA plans allow you to use your funds for physical therapy. We’ll provide a detailed receipt if you need one for reimbursement.
